Blush and Brushstrokes

Blush and Brushstrokes

Join us as we explore and celebrate womanhood through art, where each brushstroke speaks to the complexities, triumphs, and softness that define us. This show is a space for every woman to feel seen, heard, and empowered. Whether you're a creator, a supporter, or someone who simply needs to connect with the beauty of being a woman, we would love for you to be part of this special experience.

My art is an exploration of femininity, a celebration of its strength, complexity, and beauty. Raised in the farmlands of Upstate New York, I found inspiration in the rich tapestry of life and diversity that surrounded me. Yet, amidst this natural beauty, I also grappled with the pervasive notion that femininity equated to weakness—a belief ingrained in the culture of my upbringing.

Through my paintings, I strive to challenge and dismantle these stereotypes. I choose to portray women not as passive objects, but as dynamic individuals imbued with resilience and vitality. Using bright, warm colors, I capture the essence of femininity in its many forms—bold and tender, fierce and vulnerable. Each brushstroke is a deliberate act of defiance against compulsory misogyny, reclaiming femininity as a source of power and empowerment.

As an artist based in Upstate New York, I am deeply rooted in my community and draw inspiration from the diverse stories and experiences of women around me. My practice is not just about creating aesthetically pleasing artworks, but about fostering a deeper connection and empathy through the universal language of art.

Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to a cultural shift where femininity is celebrated for its inherent strength and beauty, where every woman feels seen and valued. Through my art, I aim to empower and uplift, using creativity as a tool for social change and liberation. - Emily Wangerin
